The Union Home Ministry has given the green light to a proposal from AIIMS Jammu for establishing a cutting-edge forensic institute in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative aims to enhance evidence collection, boost conviction rates, and improve investigation and diagnosis in the healthcare sector. The new forensic institute, to be located in the Samba district, will collaborate with AIIMS to expedite medical investigations and diagnoses.
Officials highlighted the significance of this move, noting the scarcity of forensic institutes nationwide. With Jammu and Kashmir’s strategic location near international and state borders, the region faces challenges related to terrorism, narco-terrorism, and gun-related crimes. The establishment of this advanced forensic facility is crucial for addressing these security concerns effectively.
Dr. Dinesh Rao, from AIIMS, emphasized the need for a state-of-the-art forensic institute to streamline investigative processes and provide comprehensive services under one roof. By consolidating evidence examination and analysis in a single facility, law enforcement agencies will benefit from enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in combating criminal activities in the region.
