Actor Michael Fassbender will return as Martian, the CIA field agent who fell in love with a former target, played by Jodie Turner-Smith, in the upcoming season of the thriller series ‘The Agency’. His character will go to great lengths to ensure her safety, even if it means betraying his own country, as reported by ‘People’ magazine.
Fassbender, 49, shared that he learned about field agents from his role preparation. He mentioned that many CIA field agents, especially double agents, exhibit sociopathic traits. He further explained that after consulting with CIA personnel, he decided that his character, Martian, is a sociopath, which aids his effectiveness in his job.
According to ‘People’, Martian is depicted as brilliant, shrewd, and manipulative, using his skills to manipulate situations. In a critical moment in the series, he chooses to defy his country and disclose classified information to save his kidnapped love interest, Samia. Fassbender noted that only a sociopath would take such extreme actions, putting others at risk.
The character’s complexity is highlighted by his relationships, particularly with his daughter and Samia. Despite his questionable actions, there is a constant struggle for his morality and humanity, adding layers to his portrayal in the series.
