Former Bangladesh cricket captain Minhajul Abedin is on track to become a Category 1 director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following the finalization of candidates’ list by the Election Commission. With only Minhajul and Moin Uddin Chowdhury left for the two director positions in the Chattogram division after a nomination withdrawal, their election is expected to be unopposed.
Minhajul, an experienced figure in Bangladesh cricket administration post his playing career, has served various roles within the BCB, notably as a selector and chief selector. He expressed his gratitude at the opportunity, highlighting his aim to contribute his past experiences to benefit Chattogram’s cricket development.
The Election Commission’s latest list reveals that most Category 1 divisions have uncontested candidates, with only a few regions undergoing elections. Notably, Khulna will witness a three-way contest for two seats, while Barishal will have a direct competition for one position. The scheduled elections are slated for June 7.
In Category 2 (club category), the competition remains intense even after two withdrawals. Sixteen candidates are now vying for 12 director positions following the exit of Lutfur Rahman and Mahmudur Rahman from the race. The BCB, comprising 25 directors, will see the elected members selecting the next BCB president, with the upcoming election likely focusing on a few contested seats rather than a widespread competitive race for the entire board.
