Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, expressed worry about the safety of Indian citizens abroad following a significant military escalation in the Middle East. This escalation involved coordinated strikes by the US and Israel on Iran’s leadership, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Ministry of External Affairs and relevant authorities are actively monitoring the situation to safeguard Indians traveling or residing overseas.
Instructions have been issued to ensure the protection and assistance of Indian students, tourists, and citizens currently abroad, especially in light of the intense developments in the Middle East. The recent military campaign, known as “Operation Epic Fury,” targeted key Iranian nuclear and military sites, leading to substantial destruction and a heightened security environment in the region.
Minister Margherita emphasized the importance of Indian nationals, particularly students and travelers in affected areas, maintaining close communication with Indian missions and adhering to safety guidelines. He stressed that the safety and well-being of Indians abroad are the top priority, with government channels ready to provide necessary support to those facing distress.
Amid global concerns over the repercussions of the Middle East conflict on international security and energy markets, countries worldwide are reevaluating travel advisories and consular operations. Analysts warn that the escalating tensions could result in prolonged regional instability, impacting global diplomatic relations and civilian safety beyond the immediate conflict zones.
Minister Margherita also called for calm among communities in Assam with relatives in the Middle East, highlighting the dynamic nature of the situation and the ongoing efforts of official channels to offer swift assistance. He stressed the importance of accurate information and coordinated support during these uncertain times.
