The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mukesh Mahaling, met Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati at Lok Bhavan to discuss the agenda for the special session of the Odisha Assembly set for April 30. Mahaling briefed the Governor on the importance of the session, focusing on enhancing women’s role in governance and decision-making in Indian democracy. The Minister highlighted key themes and discussions planned for the session.
Governor Kambhampati praised the initiative and expressed optimism for productive deliberations. He stressed the significance of increasing women’s involvement in democratic processes. The Governor extended best wishes for the successful conduct of the special session.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh and senior police officials inspected security arrangements at the Assembly ahead of the special session. The Police Commissioner mentioned the deployment of around 30 platoons and nearly 100 senior officers for security. Additionally, 11 Quick Response Teams were positioned, with seven inside the Assembly premises and four in the surrounding areas.
Amid a political debate over the Women’s Reservation Bill, the Odisha Legislative Assembly has called for a special session on April 30 to discuss women’s representation in Indian democracy. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and opposition parties like the Biju Janata Dal and the Indian National Congress are expected to engage in a vigorous debate on ‘Participation of Women in Indian Democracy’ during the one-day special session of the 17th Odisha Assembly.
