The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is undertaking projects totaling 2,105 km and costing Rs 1.04 lakh crore to alleviate congestion in Delhi, as stated by Minister Nitin Gadkari in the Lok Sabha. These projects, including a six-lane greenfield corridor from DND-Faridabad-Sonha and a road tunnel at Shiv Murti connecting Dwarka Expressway and NH 48, aim to decongest the southern areas of the National Capital. Additionally, proposals for corridor upgrades in South Delhi, such as Ashram Chowk to Badarpur Border and Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, are being pursued by the Union government.

To further ease congestion in South Delhi, the government is considering projects like an interchange at Kalindi Kunj Junction up to Okhla Barrage. The costs and timelines for these initiatives are determined post feasibility studies and Detailed Project Reports approval. Minister Gadkari emphasized that the development and maintenance of National Highways are ongoing processes, with new projects being undertaken based on feasibility, traffic density, and alignment with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

Responding to a query by BJP’s South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Gadkari shared details on the planned expenditures for projects aimed at decongesting South Delhi. These projects include signal-free routes on Mathura Road from Ashram Chowk to Badarpur Border, an elevated road from INA to Mahipalpur, and a tunnel from Vasant Kunj Nelson Mandela Road to Shiv Murti.
