The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is taking steps to revive Formula 1 and boost the motorsports sector in India. A dedicated task force has been set up to create a roadmap for the long-term growth of the sport in the country. This decision follows a meeting chaired by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya with Ministry officials, representatives from the national motorsports federation, and other key stakeholders.

The newly formed four to five-member task force will conduct a detailed assessment of India’s motorsports landscape. It will analyze the current ecosystem, infrastructure, operational challenges, and policy issues hindering the sport’s development. The task force will also explore the benefits of hosting international motorsport events like Formula 1, including economic impact, tourism potential, and investment opportunities.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted that the task force’s focus will be on infrastructure development, policy framework, and public-private partnerships to strengthen motorsports in India. The committee will identify priority areas for intervention, recommend infrastructure upgrades, and propose operational frameworks to support the sport’s expansion. Its recommendations will be submitted to the Sports Ministry for further action.

The Ministry aims to develop a comprehensive national policy framework for promoting motorsports at various levels based on the task force’s findings. This framework will address infrastructure development, talent nurturing, event-hosting capabilities, and governance mechanisms. The Government plans to expand motorsports beyond elite competition by enhancing regional and grassroots motorsport centers to cultivate a sustainable talent pool and improve facility access nationwide.

To ensure effective implementation, the Ministry will explore Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models as part of a structured development strategy. Collaboration between government bodies and private entities will be crucial for infrastructure development, event management, and investment mobilization in the motorsports sector. Additionally, motorsports will be integrated into the ‘Play in India’ initiative to boost India’s sporting ambitions and global sporting profile.
