The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D) has announced the upcoming “Regional Review Meeting: Northeastern Region 2026” in Aizawl, Mizoram on May 25. Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will inaugurate the event and lay the foundation stone for fisheries projects valued at approximately Rs 32.15 crore. These projects aim to enhance the fisheries sector in the Northeastern Region by improving infrastructure, implementing modern aquaculture practices, and providing livelihood support to beneficiaries.
The meeting, chaired by the Union Minister, will see the participation of Ministers of State S. P. Singh Baghel and George Kurian, along with ministers responsible for fisheries and animal husbandry from various Northeastern states. The event, to be held in a hybrid mode, will involve senior officials from the Centre and Northeastern states reviewing the progress of schemes in the fisheries, livestock, and dairy sectors across the region.
Key discussions during the meeting will revolve around strategies for sustainable sectoral growth, welfare of farmers, and enhancement of livelihoods. The ministry plans to launch a village-level survey to expand the coverage of Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies (MDCS) during the program. Additionally, an awareness film on African Swine Fever and a booklet on “Good Husbandry Practices in Pig Farming” will be released.
The event will also witness the launch of MULCO Cow Ghee by Mizoram Milk Producers Co-operative Union Ltd, the inauguration of Mizo Café, and an FPO office-cum-sale outlet. Certificates, including Fisheries Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), will be distributed to beneficiaries from the Northeastern states, and awards for the best fisheries startups and cooperatives will be presented. The Union Minister is expected to engage with beneficiaries to address sector challenges and explore further support measures.
Discussions at the program will focus on increasing fish production, addressing value chain gaps, strengthening market linkages, and promoting exports from the Northeastern Region. Representatives from fisheries institutions and state governments will collaborate on actionable strategies to boost productivity and create employment opportunities in the sector.
