The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed all states and Union Territories to increase public communication regarding the availability of LPG and other petroleum products. Secretary Dr. Neeraj Mittal emphasized the need for daily press briefings and timely dissemination of accurate information to counter rumors and misinformation causing public concern. The Ministry highlighted the importance of preventing fake news about petrol, diesel, and LPG prices to avoid panic buying and hoarding.
In response to persistent rumors affecting the distribution network, the Ministry urged intensified communication efforts across all states and Union Territories. Currently, only 17 states and Union Territories are actively engaging in press briefings or issuing press releases to address these concerns. The Ministry also instructed states to take strict action against hoarding and black marketing of petroleum products.
The advisory comes amidst global supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical events in West Asia, impacting LPG availability in some regions. Despite government measures to streamline distribution, misinformation on social media platforms has worsened the situation, leading to panic buying. The Ministry stressed the critical role of proactive and real-time communication to reassure citizens and maintain an efficient supply chain.
