A minor student who allegedly killed a fellow hostel inmate and injured others at a residential school in Ballari, Karnataka, was located and apprehended by the police after being missing for hours. The incident took place at a Gurukul residential school, where the Class 9 student reportedly attacked fellow hostel inmates with an iron rod during their sleep following a minor dispute. One student succumbed to severe injuries, while others, including the hostel warden and a driver, were also injured in the altercation.
The boy fled from the hostel after the attack, prompting a search operation by the Ballari Rural Police. CCTV footage was used to track his movements, leading to his discovery in the Gangappa Jina area of Ballari. The injured students and staff members were taken to the Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari for medical treatment. The police are investigating the sequence of events that led to the attack and plan to present the boy before the authorities after medical evaluation and counselling.
The victim’s family has raised concerns about the school management’s account of the incident, alleging that the victim may have been stabbed with a knife rather than attacked with an iron rod. They have questioned the school administration’s responsibility in the matter, expressing doubts about how such a violent incident could occur within a residential hostel setting.
