Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu attributed her family’s enduring support during tough times as crucial to her success after securing her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal. She expressed gratitude to her family for standing by her through injuries and sacrifices, emphasizing their role in keeping her motivated throughout her career. Chanu revealed that she had not initially planned to attempt heavier lifts but adjusted her strategy after a failed snatch attempt. Despite facing challenges, she managed to lift 85kg on her last attempt, setting new records at the Commonwealth Games. The Indian weightlifter showcased remarkable resilience by overcoming setbacks and securing the gold medal comfortably in the clean and jerk event.
With this victory, Chanu became the first Indian athlete to clinch a gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, adding to her previous gold medals at the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Games. Reflecting on her achievement, she expressed deep emotions upon hearing the Indian national anthem while standing atop the podium, describing it as a moment of immense pride and happiness.
