A group of miscreants caused havoc inside Kamala Chatterjee Girls’ High School in south Kolkata early on Saturday, leading to a police investigation. The incident occurred at around 4.30 a.m. within a building rented by the school for primary and secondary classes. School authorities reported that the vandalism was targeted at this specific building.
The school, equipped with surveillance cameras, captured footage of youths climbing the main gate in the early hours of Saturday to enter the premises and carry out the vandalism. Headmistress Debjani Das expressed dismay, stating that upon her arrival in the morning, she found extensive damage, all of which was recorded by CCTV cameras. A complaint has been lodged with the police and the district school inspector.
Following the incident, the District School Education Department plans to meet with the headmistress next Monday to address the situation. The vandalism has sparked concerns about the safety and security of educational institutions in Kolkata. The education department has taken a serious view of the matter and will discuss with the headmistress to ensure the school’s safety, leading to a decision on further legal and administrative actions.
