Former India women’s cricket captain Mithali Raj commended the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ initiative during a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in Tirupati. Raj expressed appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its significance in promoting inclusive growth and deeper representation in democracy. Delhi CM Rekha also acknowledged Raj’s support for the initiative, emphasizing the upcoming period of April 16-18 as a pivotal moment for the nation.
The interaction between Mithali Raj and Delhi CM Rekha signifies a positive step towards enhancing women’s representation in Parliament. The upcoming parliamentary session is expected to discuss proposed amendments to the women’s reservation law act, aiming to reserve one-third of seats in Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies for women. Mithali Raj, in addition to her cricket-related roles, serves as a consultant of Women’s Cricket Operations at the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA).
The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’ initiative, supported by Mithali Raj and Delhi CM Rekha, reflects a broader national sentiment of empowering women from achievement to leadership roles. The upcoming parliamentary session holds significance as it seeks to deepen India’s democratic journey through increased female representation. Last year, Mithali Raj was honored with a stand named after her at the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam during the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
