Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma revealed plans to establish Mizoram ginger as a top agricultural product in national and international markets. Efforts are underway to enhance production, value addition, and market access for the state’s GI-tagged ginger, aiming to boost farmers’ income and strengthen the agricultural economy.
Last year, Mizoram was recognized as the “Ginger Capital of India” by NITI Aayog due to its significant ginger production. Lalduhoma inaugurated projects focusing on Mizo Ginger’s Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and emphasized the need for processing and value addition to improve farmers’ income and sustainability.
The Chief Minister announced the launch of a Sustainable Cultivation and Post-Harvest Management Project, with the establishment of modern ginger processing units in the largest ginger-producing district. This initiative, supported by the Ministry of DoNER, is expected to benefit thousands of ginger-growing households and create job opportunities.
Plans include developing high-value products like ginger oil and providing training on export procedures through the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL). Additionally, the implementation of the PM-AASHA Price Support Scheme for various crops in Mizoram aims to ensure fair prices and transparency for farmers.
