Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with Union Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Secretary Sanjay Jaju to discuss the need for a more systematic and transparent implementation of the 10 per cent Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) mechanism. This mechanism monitors the expenditure for Central Sector and Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the Northeastern region by non-exempted ministries, departments, and organizations. Lalduhoma expressed gratitude for the approval of the NEC-funded project, ‘Sustainable Cultivation of Mizo Ginger USP’.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Mizoram is known for producing high-quality ginger and has been recognized as the “Ginger Capital of India” by NITI Aayog. He mentioned that the approved funding for the ginger project would greatly benefit cultivators in the state. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the extension of the Khankawn to Rongura Hmun road under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-Roads), aiming to enhance connectivity benefits.
During the meeting, Jaju informed Lalduhoma about efforts to attract private investors for the development and upgradation of the Thenzawl Golf Resort. They also addressed various pending DoNER scheme projects related to Mizoram. Notably, NITI Aayog officially declared Mizoram as the “Ginger Capital of India” during a seminar in New Delhi, recognizing the state’s premium-quality ginger production and its significant growth in ginger cultivation. The state has procured over 3.38 crore kg of ginger in 2025, with the entire support price of Rs 137.72 crore already disbursed.
