Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced efforts to modernize the state’s police force for better law enforcement. At the parade ground of the 3rd Battalion of the Mizoram Armed Police at Mualpui, 219 new police vehicles were flagged off. These vehicles, procured under the ASUMP Scheme, aim to equip all 44 police stations in Mizoram for improved service to the public.
The Chief Minister highlighted that each police station in Mizoram will receive at least one new vehicle, with additional vehicles allocated to police outposts, battalions, specialized units, and police training schools. A total of Rs 44.53 crore, including the state’s share, has been received under the ASUMP Scheme, with Rs 30.45 crore utilized for vehicle procurement. The remaining funds have been allocated for modern policing equipment and infrastructure development.
CM Lalduhoma emphasized that the procurement of vehicles under the Police Modernisation Scheme faced challenges since 2017 but was recently approved due to efforts by the state government and Mizoram Police. He also noted the significance of restoring benefits under the scheme since 2021. The Chief Minister urged proper maintenance of the new vehicles to ensure long-term service to the Police Department.
Director General of Police (DGP) Sharad Agarwal stated that the initiative not only involves acquiring new vehicles but also aims to strengthen the police force’s operational capabilities for modern policing demands. The event was attended by Home Minister K. Sapdanga and senior police officials.
