Sustained peace is crucial for achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, stated Mizoram Governor General V.K. Singh (Retd) on the ‘Remna Ni’ (Mizoram Peace Accord Day). The Mizoram Peace Accord, signed on June 30, 1986, marked the end of a twenty-year period of insurgency and unrest in the northeastern state.
The historic agreement led to Mizoram gaining full statehood as the 23rd state of India on February 20, 1987, transitioning from a Union Territory. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Mizoram Peace Accord, the Governor hailed it as a significant moment in the state’s history, fostering hope for a peaceful and progressive Mizoram.
General Singh (Retd) expressed gratitude to all who contributed to achieving and maintaining peace in Mizoram, emphasizing the importance of peace as a prerequisite for individual and national progress. Peace, he noted, is essential for fostering human rights, democratic values, and trust among people, serving as the bedrock for overall development in various sectors.
As Mizoram commemorates this milestone, the Governor urged the people to uphold the legacy of the Peace Accord and work together towards a prosperous and harmonious Mizoram that contributes significantly to a developed India. A peaceful Mizoram, he stressed, not only benefits the state but also sets an example for the entire nation.
