Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) encouraged the people to uphold the Mizo value of ‘Tlawmngaihna’, emphasizing selflessness, compassion, and voluntary service. He highlighted the importance of unity in combating drug abuse and trafficking. The Governor conveyed warm wishes to the Young Mizo Association (YMA) on its 91st Foundation Day, praising its contributions to community service and social welfare initiatives.
The YMA, recognized as the largest socio-cultural and voluntary organization in Mizoram, has played a pivotal role in shaping Mizo society. Governor Singh lauded the YMA for its efforts in assisting the underprivileged, preserving Mizo culture, and supporting government welfare programs. He urged the people to promote unity, respect traditions, and steer clear of substance abuse, emphasizing the need for collective action against narcotics.
Expressing concern over the rise in drug-related issues, Governor Singh stressed the significance of a united front to secure a better future for the youth. He called on individuals to embody the spirit of Tlawmngaihna, rooted in selflessness and charitable deeds, as a guiding principle for future generations. The Governor expressed confidence in the YMA’s continued collaboration with the government and society for the progress of Mizoram and the nation.
The Mizoram government, in partnership with the YMA, initiated a state-wide campaign last year to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse. This operation involved a specialized police team working closely with the YMA and community leaders to enhance enforcement and awareness efforts. Focus areas included strengthening surveillance along borders to prevent illegal drug transit. Home Minister K Sapdanga emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between the government, civil society, and local communities to safeguard Mizoram’s future from the adverse effects of drug influx.
