Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) emphasized the crucial position of Mizoram along India’s borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh in advancing the Act East Policy. He noted the significance of Aizawl being connected to India’s railway network for the first time through the Bairabi-Sairang New Railway Line inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025, leading to a substantial boost in transportation and tourism.
Complementing this development, the launch of the Silchar-Sairang direct passenger train service on February 9, 2026, is expected to further enhance regional connectivity. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi extended their wishes to the people of Mizoram on the occasion of the Statehood Day, acknowledging the state’s natural beauty and cultural richness.
PM Modi, in a message on social media, praised Mizoram’s heritage and community spirit, urging the state to continue its path of progress and achieve new milestones. Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed the government’s commitment to advancing Mizoram’s growth and contributing to the nation’s development. Mizoram, which became the 23rd state of the Indian Union on February 20, 1987, has seen remarkable progress in various sectors while upholding its cultural heritage and societal harmony.
Governor General (Dr) Singh (Retd) highlighted Mizoram’s achievements, including being declared India’s first fully literate state in 2025 and emerging as the champion of the India Skills Northeast Regional Competition 2025-26. The state was recognized as the “Ginger Capital of India” by NITI Aayog for its high-quality ginger production. Mizoram’s potential in organic products, medicinal plants, and sustainable sectors was also emphasized.
To promote sports tourism, Aizawl recently hosted the Aizawl International Half Marathon, attracting participants from both domestic and international arenas. Mizoram’s reputation for peace, natural beauty, cultural vibrancy, and cleanliness, along with its unique traffic etiquette, has garnered admiration nationwide.
