The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has predicted moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in various parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next four days. The weather department anticipates scattered places in these regions to experience moderate rain and thunderstorm activity from Wednesday through May 30. Additionally, isolated areas may encounter strong surface winds due to changing atmospheric conditions.
Despite the expected rain, daytime temperatures are projected to rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius in several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. This increase in temperatures over the next four days could lead to hot and humid conditions, especially in coastal areas. In Chennai, the maximum temperature is likely to reach around 41 degrees Celsius, with high humidity levels persisting throughout the day.
Health authorities have cautioned residents about potential discomfort during the afternoon hours due to the combination of heat and moisture. It is advised to stay hydrated by drinking sufficient water, even if not feeling thirsty, particularly for individuals working indoors in air-conditioned settings. Authorities have highlighted the importance of avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, wearing light cotton clothing, and ensuring proper ventilation in homes and workplaces to mitigate health risks associated with dehydration and heat-related complications.
