Moderate rainfall brought relief to several parts of Delhi on Monday morning, easing the hot and humid weather that had been prevailing in the national capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted additional rainfall in the next two days, issuing a yellow alert for the city. This alert signifies the likelihood of light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places.

The weather department forecasts that the maximum temperature in Delhi will range between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius in the upcoming days, with the minimum temperature expected to be around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. On the previous day, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees higher than the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was 31 degrees Celsius, approximately four degrees above normal, indicating the persistent heat and humidity prior to the recent rainfall.

IMD has mentioned that changing monsoon conditions in northern India may lead to intermittent cloud cover and scattered showers in the near future, offering further relief from the prevailing heatwave-like conditions. The southwest monsoon is anticipated to make a significant comeback after a prolonged lull, starting from Northeast India and gradually extending to eastern, central, and northern regions of the country in the early part of the week.

Meteorologists have predicted widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in various areas, with heavy showers expected at isolated spots. This spell of rain is likely to bring substantial relief to the Gangetic plains and parts of Central India, which have experienced prolonged hot and humid weather recently. The country is currently experiencing a “break monsoon” phase, characterized by a northward shift of the monsoon trough, leading to reduced rainfall over Central India and adjacent plains.

As per IMD data, the country has received 244.6 mm of rainfall so far, compared to the normal average of 323.1 mm, resulting in an overall rainfall deficit of 24 percent.
