Moderate rainfall is predicted in Chennai on Saturday evening, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu are set to experience a week of rain along with gusty winds. A weather system extending from the southwest Bay of Bengal to the north Lakshadweep region is influencing the current weather conditions in Tamil Nadu and nearby areas.
This weather system is anticipated to boost rainfall activity, especially in the Western Ghats region, where moderate showers and strong winds are expected until July 23. The rainfall is likely to benefit various hill and adjacent districts that have been having intermittent showers recently. The prevailing weather conditions are expected to sustain active rain activity in these regions for the next few days.
In other parts of Tamil Nadu, including interior districts, only light rain is expected at isolated spots in the upcoming days. Similar weather patterns are foreseen in the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal, where light rainfall is forecasted until July 23. The weather office has indicated no widespread heavy rainfall across most parts of the State currently. However, isolated rain spells and cloudy conditions may offer temporary relief from the prevailing hot and humid weather in various regions.
Chennai’s weather forecast suggests partly cloudy skies with the chance of moderate rain during the evening or night. While the city might see brief rain spells, daytime conditions are likely to be warm and humid. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 38 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature staying close to seasonal norms.
Meanwhile, interior Tamil Nadu is expected to face continued heat conditions. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasts maximum temperatures in the interior districts to remain up to 3 degrees Celsius above normal until July 21. Coastal areas like Chennai, Puducherry, and Karaikal are projected to have temperatures near the seasonal average.
Residents are advised to stay informed about weather forecasts, especially in districts where gusty winds and intermittent rain are expected. Authorities are urged to monitor local weather changes as the weather system continues to impact conditions across Tamil Nadu in the coming days.
