Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has expressed his belief that Rohit Sharma should play the entire duration of a T20 match for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 season, rather than being used as an Impact Player. Despite being the leading run-scorer for MI in IPL history, Rohit was often utilized as an Impact Player in the previous season, a decision Kaif criticizes, especially citing the need for Rohit’s support to Hardik during crucial matches.
Kaif took to Twitter to emphasize that Mumbai Indians should maximize the potential of a fully fit Rohit Sharma and not limit him to the role of an impact player. He stressed the importance of Rohit’s presence in high-pressure situations, highlighting the value of his contributions to captain Hardik Pandya. Kaif specifically referenced a past match where Rohit’s support was deemed crucial for Hardik, emphasizing the need for Rohit’s active involvement on the field.
Rohit Sharma, who had a subpar performance in the previous season with just 240 runs, aims to enhance his batting contributions in the upcoming IPL season. As per the BCCI’s 20-match schedule, Mumbai Indians are set to kick off their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium, followed by a match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 4.
