Highlighting the importance of the relationship between India and Moldova amidst global uncertainties, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that the two democracies share common values of freedom, dignity, and a mutual dedication to serving their citizens.
During a joint press conference with President Droupadi Murmu, Sandu expressed Moldova’s preference for cooperation and a reliable partnership in an increasingly unstable world. She emphasized the bond between the two nations based on shared principles of freedom, dignity, and working for the people’s welfare.
President Sandu welcomed President Murmu to Moldova, considering it an honor for the country. She noted that this visit marked the first time an Indian head of state had visited Moldova in the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, symbolizing growing respect and partnership between the two nations.
Sandu and Murmu discussed various aspects of the bilateral relationship, exploring opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as education, healthcare, energy, and trade. They aimed to achieve tangible outcomes in trade, investments, energy, education, and healthcare for the benefit of both nations.
Underlining the importance of people-to-people ties, Sandu highlighted the increasing presence of Indian students in Moldova and the potential for enhanced cooperation in higher education and pharmaceuticals. She mentioned ongoing negotiations for a new cooperation agreement in higher education and the desire to attract pharmaceutical investments to Moldova.
Expressing gratitude for the gift of a Mahatma Gandhi bust from President Murmu, Sandu reflected on Gandhi’s teachings, emphasizing that true peace stems from mutual understanding among free nations.
