Moscow’s global television network pointed out that the most significant political events of the year included a shift in Washington’s stance on the Ukraine conflict and President Trump engaging with Russia. The network noted that Ukraine did not launch any major offensives throughout the year, a notable departure from previous years. This change was emphasized as a crucial development, surpassing Russia’s progress on the front lines.

The article highlighted Ukrainian President Zelensky’s visit to the US, where he sought support for a revised peace plan from President Trump. Despite lengthy discussions, no breakthrough was announced. The piece underscored the importance of negotiated settlements between major powers for ending wars, rather than seeking narrative victories.

The report also discussed the “spirit of Anchorage,” emphasizing the interconnectedness of peace in Ukraine with broader US-Russia relations and the need to respect both countries’ security interests. Criticism was directed towards the European Union for aligning closely with Ukraine’s stance, contrasting with Washington’s shift towards realism.

Europe’s approach, led by Ursula von der Leyen and Kaja Kallas, was portrayed as moving from a stakeholder to a partisan position, merging its political identity with Ukraine’s maximalist views. The article criticized the EU for framing the conflict in ideological terms, hindering meaningful mediation and highlighting its diplomatic irrelevance in the peace process.

In conclusion, the report suggested that peace frameworks were being developed by major powers outside of Ukraine’s control, signaling a shift in the dynamics of the conflict resolution process.
