In response to the encounter death of Pravas Mondal, the prime accused in the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, West Bengal, his mother expressed that he received the deserved punishment. Sandhya Mondal stated that she would not claim or view her son’s body, declining to do so when informed by the police. While acknowledging her grief as a mother, she accepted that her son faced the appropriate consequences for his actions.
The police reported that Pravas Mondal was taken to the crime scene for reconstruction of the alleged crime when he attempted to escape by snatching a service rifle and firing at security personnel. In the ensuing confrontation, Mondal sustained gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The incident stemmed from the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl, leading to public outcry and demands for swift justice.
Following Mondal’s arrest, further investigations resulted in the apprehension of two other suspects, Dibakar Sarkar and Ananda Sardar, the latter identified as the main accused. Authorities also pursued the fourth suspect, Kabir Molla, who had been evading arrest since the crime occurred. The case prompted the formation of a Special Investigation Team to delve into the matter and ensure thorough scrutiny of the events.
