With internal dissent persisting in the Trinamool Congress, MP Kirti Azad accused the BJP of causing the divide within the Mamata Banerjee-led party, mentioning the success of “Operation Lotus.” The rift intensified as 19 rebel Trinamool MPs claimed to represent the majority bloc in the Lok Sabha, raising concerns within the party. Azad emphasized that the Trinamool Congress’s strength lies in Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and the collective effort of its members, dismissing claims of individual electoral victories.
Azad expressed awareness of the rebel MPs’ predicament, citing alleged intimidation tactics by BJP workers, including CID raids and threats, leading to some MPs feeling compelled to make decisions against the party. He criticized the BJP’s strategy, highlighting the effectiveness of “Operation Lotus” in influencing political dynamics. Azad questioned the timing of the rebel MPs’ actions, particularly following the Trinamool’s defeat in the Assembly polls, raising suspicions about external influences on internal party matters.
In response to Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee’s ultimatum to Mamata Banerjee, Azad affirmed confidence in Mamata’s leadership, acknowledging Banerjee’s loyalty and commitment to the party. He warned of the BJP’s alleged agenda to weaken opposition parties, citing instances of political fragmentation in other states orchestrated by the BJP. Azad also raised concerns about the BJP’s intentions regarding the Delimitation Bill and its strategy to secure parliamentary support for the proposed legislation.
