Team bonding and role clarity are crucial for MSC Maratha Royals as they gear up to defend their title in the T20 Mumbai League, according to captain Siddhesh Lad. Last season, despite losing all five practice games before the tournament, the team’s strong bond and well-defined roles were key to their success. Lad emphasized the importance of every player contributing to the team’s victories.
Lad, who was the second-highest run-scorer in the previous season, highlighted the ongoing focus on match simulations and team bonding sessions to recreate the winning formula. He credited former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar for creating an environment where young players could excel and understand their roles effectively.
While acknowledging the pressure of defending their title, Lad expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform under challenging circumstances. As the defending champions, they face the added challenge of rival teams being more prepared to counter their strengths and weaknesses. The tournament serves as a significant platform for emerging talent to showcase their skills and potentially transition to higher levels of cricket.
Lad also welcomed the inclusion of the women’s version of the league, emphasizing the importance of supporting women’s cricket and nurturing talent at all levels. He believes that such initiatives will inspire young girls to pursue cricket and contribute to the growth of the sport in India.
