Multi-cornered contests are set to unfold in Tripura and Nagaland as candidates have filed nominations for the upcoming by-elections in the Dharmanagar and Koridang Assembly constituencies. In Tripura’s Dharmanagar, six candidates, including representatives from major political parties and independent candidates, are vying for the seat left vacant by the late MLA Biswa Bandhu Sen.
Key contenders in Dharmanagar include Jahar Chakraborti of the BJP, Chayan Bhattacharjee of the Congress, and Amitabha Datta from the CPI-M-led Left Front. Notably, the Left Front and Congress, who had previously joined forces against the BJP, are now contesting separately, intensifying the electoral competition.
In Nagaland’s Koridang constituency, seven candidates, including the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance’s consensus candidate Daochier I. Imchen of the BJP, are in the race. The by-election in Koridang was triggered by the passing of MLA Imkong L. Imchen, with candidates from various parties and independents adding to the diverse electoral landscape.
The by-elections in both states have garnered significant interest, with voters gearing up to cast their ballots. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is March 26, and the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
