Multiple Aadhaar cards were discovered in a Trinamool Congress party office in Kolkata’s Tangra area, causing a stir among local residents. The office, which had been locked since the Assembly election results were announced on May 4, was accessed by some locals who found the Aadhaar cards inside a cupboard.
The recovery of these Aadhaar cards attracted a crowd outside the Trinamool office, leading to residents expressing astonishment at their presence there. While some individuals stated they already had their original Aadhaar cards, others mentioned not receiving theirs despite completing the necessary procedures. The police were promptly notified, and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Allegations have surfaced, with one local claiming that his daughter’s Aadhaar card was issued but never reached him, sparking suspicions of possible withholding of the cards post-delivery. Additionally, there are unverified assertions from residents suggesting potential misuse of the documents. The police have been alerted, and they are currently looking into the situation. The Trinamool Congress has not issued an official response yet.
The party office, situated in the Beliaghata Assembly constituency, was previously utilized by Trinamool leader Jiban Kumar Saha. However, post-elections, the office has seen minimal activity, with few party members frequenting the premises. Concerns have been raised regarding the purpose behind storing a significant number of Aadhaar cards in a political party’s office. Some locals have speculated that the cards might have been intended for the creation of fake voter identity cards, although these claims have not been officially confirmed.
