The Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) apprehended a 30-year-old Bangladeshi woman in Cuffe Parade for residing in the city without proper travel or immigration documents. Identified as Bilkis Begum Sirmiya Akhtar, she had been deported to Bangladesh previously but re-entered India unlawfully. The ATS, acting on intelligence inputs, conducted a joint operation with local police to arrest her.
The woman, detained during a raid in south Mumbai, initially provided misleading information about her identity and stay in India. However, after interrogation, she admitted to being a Bangladeshi national and disclosed her illegal re-entry into India. Despite deportation in 2025, she had been living in Cuffe Parade without valid identification documents. An FIR has been filed for her illegal entry and stay in India.
Police recovered her Bangladeshi National Identity number from a mobile phone during a search, which served as digital evidence. The phone was seized, and an investigation is ongoing to determine her method of re-entry post-deportation and any potential ties to illegal networks aiding cross-border infiltration.
