Mumbai City FC has bolstered their squad for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) by securing the services of Portuguese center-back Nuno Reis on a short-term contract. Reis, aged 35, brings a wealth of experience from various leagues worldwide, including a stint with ISL champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The seasoned defender had previously left the club last summer.
The two-time ISL champions officially announced the signing of Nuno Reis through a social media post. Describing him as a valuable addition, Mumbai City FC expressed their delight in welcoming the Portuguese defender for the remainder of the season. Reis has notably featured prominently in the A-League with Manchester City FC, clinching three A-League Premierships and the 2021 Championship before joining Mohun Bagan in 2024.
As the ISL 2025 season prepares to commence, defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant are scheduled to face Kerala Blasters in the opening match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. The tournament will feature a total of 14 teams competing in its 12th edition, with Mumbai City FC launching their campaign against Chennaiyin FC at the Football Arena in Mumbai on February 19.
Known as “The Islanders,” Mumbai City FC has been a dominant force in the ISL since its inception in 2014, sharing the title of the most successful club in ISL history with Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The club boasts four titles, including two League Winners Shields and two ISL Cups. In the 2024-25 season, Mumbai City FC finished sixth with 36 points from 24 league games, securing victory in nine matches while facing defeat in ten encounters.
