The Mumbai Congress committee chief, Varsha Gaikwad, criticized Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for attending the World Economic Forum summit in Davos, calling it a mere “show” and a waste of state funds. Gaikwad questioned the need for signing MoUs worth Rs 14.50 lakh crore in Davos when the companies involved are based in Mumbai itself, just near the state’s administrative headquarters.

Gaikwad stressed the importance of transparency in industrial investments, highlighting that despite claims of massive investments and job creation during previous Davos visits, the actual impact on unemployment rates remains unseen. She urged the state government to provide a ‘White Paper’ disclosing the implementation status of past MoUs, the capital inflow into the state, and the number of jobs generated through these international agreements.

Emphasizing the necessity for accountability, Gaikwad stated that without a detailed report on the outcomes of previous promises, the annual trips to Davos will be perceived as staged events rather than genuine efforts toward economic progress.
