The Western Cyber Police Station in Mumbai has filed a criminal case against individuals for spreading false information on social media about the recent government demolition drive in Bandra East. The police took action after a post on social media platform X on May 22 contained fabricated claims regarding the eviction and demolition operation in Bandra East. Authorities believe the misinformation was circulated to disrupt peace and create tension between communities.
Strict legal action will be taken against those found spreading fake news online or trying to disrupt law and order through social media platforms. Mumbai Police have advised the public to use social media responsibly and avoid sharing unverified information. Circulating false or misleading information online is a punishable offense, and any attempt to create communal tension through online content could have serious legal consequences.
In a separate cyber-related case, Mumbai Police had earlier registered an FIR involving an AI-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The video, which contained abusive language, was circulated online to tarnish the Prime Minister’s image. The accused, Nafis Alam, is being investigated for creating and uploading the edited video. Further inquiries are ongoing in both cases.
