Mumbai Indians (MI) have suffered a setback in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 as their wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini has been ruled out due to an injury. Seventeen-year-old Kamalini, who had played five matches in the ongoing season, will be replaced by Vaishnavi Sharma for the remainder of the season. Vaishnavi Sharma, a left-arm spinner and a member of India’s ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2025, has been brought in by MI for Rs 30 Lakh.
MI, the defending champions, have had a challenging start to their WPL campaign with just two wins in five games. Despite recent results not going their way, they are holding onto the number two spot on the points table due to their superior net run-rate. With three league games left before the playoffs, MI faces a crucial match against Delhi Capitals at the BCA Stadium, Kotambi.
Both Kamalini and Vaishnavi, who played for India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka last year, have received their first ODI call-ups for the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia. India is scheduled to play three T20Is and as many ODIs between February 15 and March 1, with a one-off Test match in Perth from March 6 to 9. The squad for the Test match is yet to be announced.
