Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have brought in South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj to replace Mitchell Santner, who is out of the ongoing 19th edition of the Indian Premier League due to a left shoulder injury sustained in the previous match. Mumbai Indians officially confirmed Maharaj’s signing as Santner’s replacement, expressing well wishes for Santner’s recovery and anticipation of his return to action soon.
Keshav Maharaj, known for his expertise in spin bowling, is a seasoned player for South Africa in various formats. Making his international debut in 2016, Maharaj has showcased exceptional control and pressure-building skills. Despite not having played a T20 international before, he was part of South Africa’s 2021 T20 World Cup squad and even captained the team against Sri Lanka, impressively taking a wicket with his first delivery in the format.
With a track record of 31 wickets in his last 30 T20 matches, including a best of 3 for 15, Maharaj’s addition to the Mumbai Indians squad was welcomed. The team praised his hunger, skill, and experience, highlighting his values, discipline, and ability to perform under pressure. Meanwhile, Santner, who has played four matches in IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians, secured five wickets conceding 125 runs.
