The Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series is ready for its fifth edition, with the main draw ceremony taking place at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) on Saturday. The tournament is scheduled to run from February 2 to 8. Indian players, including Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, Vaishnavi Adkar, and Rutuja Bhosale, were part of the main draw ceremony.
The event was graced by notable figures like MSLTA secretary Sunder Iyer, joint secretary Nikhil Sampath, and India’s Billie Jean King Cup coach Radhika Tulpule. The tournament, starting on February 2, will feature Indian talents facing tough international opponents, with Sahaja Yamalapalli set to play against Japan’s Eri Shimizu in the opening round.
Indian wild card entrants, including Shrivalli Bhamidipaty and Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, will compete against strong opponents. Vaishnavi Adkar, Maharashtra’s top singles player, will take on Austria’s Lilli Tagger. Vaidehee Chaudhari, another Indian wild card, is set to challenge third seed Leolia Jeanjean of France in the tournament.
Reflecting on her strategy for the upcoming matches, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, a previous semi-finalist, emphasized her focus on continuous improvement and staying injury-free. MSLTA secretary Sunder Iyer highlighted the significance of the tournament in identifying future international players and preparing for events like the Asian Games. The competition offers valuable ranking points that benefit players throughout the year.
