Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted the crucial role of agriculture and allied sectors, stressing that 70% of the state’s population relies on farming for sustenance. Speaking at the inauguration of the Food Processing Incubation Centre in Toluvi, Dimapur, Rio emphasized the potential of food processing and small-scale industries in driving industrial growth and creating employment opportunities.
The Chief Minister lauded the significance of the newly launched center, stating that it would foster entrepreneurship, job creation, and reduce the state’s reliance on imported goods. He expressed optimism that these initiatives would enhance local production, promote value addition, and contribute to greater self-sufficiency in Nagaland.
Under the Government of India’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, Rio mentioned that the projects aim to enhance infrastructure and stimulate economic progress. He highlighted that these facilities would not only support local entrepreneurs but also facilitate the transformation of locally grown produce into market-ready goods.
Rio underscored the importance of effective management of these facilities, emphasizing the need for quality maintenance, regular upkeep, and optimal utilization of the infrastructure. He also called for minimizing the role of intermediaries to ensure that farmers receive a fair share of the benefits. Additionally, he encouraged youth to explore opportunities in self-employment, MSMEs, and the private sector, stressing the importance of skill development and entrepreneurship.
