Regular skipper Gerhard Erasmus will hand over leadership duties to all-rounder JJ Smit for Namibia in the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series. The tournament, set to take place in Windhoek and feature Oman and Scotland, will consist of six matches starting on April 2. Namibia, currently in sixth place in the League 2 table, aims to leverage home advantage to enhance their position and stay in contention for the top four spots.
Smit will captain a 15-member squad for the Windhoek leg, including newcomers William Lottering and Zacheo Jansen van Vuuren, alongside key players from Namibia’s recent participation in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Despite a disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, where Namibia finished last in their group without a single point, they are determined to bounce back and make an impact in the upcoming tri-series.
The tri-series marks a crucial phase for Namibia, as the top four teams in the League 2 standings will secure a spot in the primary pathway tournament leading to the next ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Namibia’s journey begins with a match against Oman on April 4, as they strive to deliver stronger performances and regain their competitive edge on the field.
