Nandini Mukherjee Paul, the wife of late Bengali actor and former TMC MP Tapas Paul, has leveled serious allegations against former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She claimed that Mamata deserted Tapas Paul during his most challenging times, which she believes led to his untimely demise. Following the TMC’s recent electoral setbacks, internal rifts within the party have surfaced, with several MLAs skipping meetings called by Mamata Banerjee, alleging signature forgery and hinting at resignations. Moreover, reports suggest that 50 MLAs are gearing up to present signatures against party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to the Legislative Assembly Speaker.
Nandini Paul took to social media to criticize Mamata Banerjee indirectly, referring to a statement by TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh. She expressed discomfort after hearing Ghosh emphasize conscience on a TV channel and questioned Mamata’s actions two decades ago. Nandini insinuated that TMC’s electoral victories in 2001, 2006, and 2009 were not solely due to Mamata’s popularity but also owed to Tapas Paul’s significant contributions. Tapas Paul, a two-time TMC MLA and Lok Sabha MP, was elected in 2001 and 2006 during TMC’s Opposition days and later secured the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat in 2009.
Implying that Tapas Paul’s success was independent of Mamata’s influence, Nandini alleged that he was exploited for political gains, endured prolonged mental distress, and was ultimately driven to the brink of death. She also raised questions about the evolving relationship between Mamata Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh, who had previously criticized Mamata for his arrest in the Saradha chit fund scam. Nandini accused Ghosh of altering his stance towards Mamata, prompting her to demand an explanation from him regarding this shift in position.
