As the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) celebrated its 23rd anniversary, Chairman S. Krishnan emphasized the importance of fostering trust, resilience, and security within the Internet ecosystem. Krishnan highlighted NIXI’s significant role in fortifying India’s Internet infrastructure and promoting active involvement in global Internet governance dialogues. At an event, four new digital projects were unveiled, including the IX Portal, myIRINN Portal, .IN Auction Portal, and an AI-Powered WHOIS Screening Platform, with the goal of enhancing user experience and boosting transparency and operational efficiency in the nation’s Internet landscape.
The AI-Powered WHOIS screening platform is designed to bolster domain name security and enhance the identification of suspicious websites, thereby reinforcing India’s .in domain space, according to NIXI’s statement. The event also honored organizations and stakeholders for their contributions in fortifying India’s Internet ecosystem and advancing the nation’s digital infrastructure. Samiran Gupta, ICANN Vice President for Stakeholder Engagement and Managing Director for the Asia Pacific region, emphasized the necessity of enhancing India’s involvement in global Internet governance and standards discussions.
Devesh Tyagi, CEO of NIXI, underlined the importance of trust, innovation, and inclusive participation from all corners of India in shaping the future of the Internet. NIXI presently oversees more than 3.9 million .IN domain names, operates 79 Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) nationwide, facilitates domain registrations in 22 Indian languages, and continues to drive IPv6 adoption, which has reached around 78.34% across India, as per an official statement.
