A 17-year-old national-level shooter has come forward with allegations of sexual assault against her coach at a hotel in Faridabad during a championship event in December last year. The coach, as per the FIR filed in Faridabad, reportedly sexually assaulted the young athlete and threatened to sabotage her career. Following the accusations, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has suspended the coach.
The FIR details that the incident took place on December 16 while the shooter was participating in a national-level shooting competition at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Tughlakabad, South Delhi. The coach allegedly asked her to meet him at the Surajkund Hotel in Faridabad after the match to discuss her performance. Subsequently, she was coerced into going to his hotel room where the assault allegedly occurred.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter after receiving a complaint from the girl’s mother. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) since the athlete is a minor. Efforts are underway to gather evidence, including CCTV footage from the hotel, call records, and witness statements to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.
The police have refrained from disclosing further details due to the sensitivity of the case and the pending arrest of the accused. Teams have been deployed to secure electronic and forensic evidence, ensuring a thorough investigation. The coach is expected to be questioned as part of the ongoing inquiry.
