Translation studies, cultural mediation, and language politics were the key topics discussed at a recent National Young Researchers’ Seminar held by the Department of Foreign Languages at Jamia Millia Islamia. The seminar, hosted at the India-Arab Cultural Centre, gathered more than 48 young researchers from esteemed institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru University, the University of Delhi, Panjab University, Amity University, and SRM University to explore various themes.

The event featured discussions on translation studies, cultural mediation, language politics, intercultural communication, literature, and global cultural exchange, as highlighted in a statement by JMI Chief Public Relations Officer Professor Saima Saeed. Professor Md. Faizullah Khan, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, delivered the welcome address during the inaugural session, emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural communication in today’s globalized and digitalized world.

Anisur Rahman, a former professor from the Department of English at JMI, graced the session as the Chief Guest. Rahman acknowledged the enriching experience of engaging with young researchers and stressed the significance of interdisciplinary research and a multilingual approach. Guest of Honour Professor Kiran Chaudhry underscored the seminar’s theme’s relevance and timeliness, pointing out the increasing cultural encounters globally and the necessity to contemplate pluralism.
