Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly, Naveen Patnaik, strongly condemned BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for making derogatory comments about his father, Biju Patnaik. Patnaik expressed surprise at Dubey’s remarks and highlighted his father’s role in combating the Chinese attack in 1962.
Patnaik emphasized that Biju Patnaik played a crucial role during the Chinese aggression, and Dubey’s comments were unwarranted. The BJD Rajya Sabha MPs also protested against Dubey’s statements in Parliament and later walked out in protest.
On March 27, Nishikant Dubey alleged that Biju Patnaik acted as a link between the US government, CIA, and Nehru during the 1962 war with China. These comments stirred controversy within the Biju Janata Dal, leading to strong reactions from party members.
Senior BJD leader Sasmit Patra resigned from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and IT, chaired by Nishikant Dubey, in protest against the disrespectful remarks made about Biju Patnaik. Patra cited principles and conscience for his decision to step down from the committee.
