Leader of Opposition and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik wrote to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressing serious concerns about the proposed Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, also known as the Delimitation Bill. Patnaik highlighted that if passed, the bill could reduce Odisha’s political representation.

Patnaik emphasized that the proposed Bill aims to increase the Lok Sabha’s strength from 543 to 850 members, potentially altering Odisha’s representation. He warned that Odisha might face a 15% loss in political representation nationally if the amendment is approved, impacting the state’s voice and influence.

Stressing the importance of preserving Odisha’s political rights, Patnaik urged the Chief Minister to take a strong stance on the issue. He called for a special session of the Odisha Assembly within 48 hours to pass a resolution safeguarding the state’s political rights, emphasizing the significance of protecting Odisha’s interests for future generations.
