Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik announced Santrupt Misra and Datteswar Hota as the party’s choices for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. Patnaik revealed that Santrupt Misra is nominated for the third seat, while Datteswar Hota is the common candidate for the fourth seat. He urged all political parties to support these candidates for their Rajya Sabha bid.
Datteswar Hota, a medical professional from Odisha, has a notable background having served as the first Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha Health University and as the Principal of SCB Medical College and Hospital. Hota expressed gratitude for his nomination by Naveen Patnaik and called for support from Members of the Legislative Assembly to advance the state’s interests collectively.
Hota emphasized his intention to seek cooperation from all sides, leveraging his expertise in health and education for public welfare. He remains optimistic about receiving broad support, particularly following Patnaik’s appeal to all parties to endorse his candidacy.
Highlighting his extensive experience, Hota mentioned his tenure as a Professor of Virology at SCB Medical College and Hospital before assuming leadership roles. He aims to continue serving Odisha at the national level if elected, building on his contributions to medical education in the state.
The Rajya Sabha will witness the retirement of four Odisha members on April 2, including Mamata Mahanta and Sujeet Kumar from the BJP, and Muzibulla Khan and Niranjan Bishi from the BJD. The Election Commission of India has set the schedule for the Rajya Sabha elections, with nominations closing on March 5.
