The NCP chief and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, along with the BJP, are in a verbal dispute regarding corruption issues in Maharashtra. This conflict has intensified as the Mahayuti alliance faces tensions before the upcoming municipal corporation elections on January 15. Ajit Pawar has directly criticized the BJP’s governance, particularly targeting corruption allegations against the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The Maharashtra BJP President, Ravindra Chavan, responded by advising Ajit Pawar to reflect on his accusations before making them public. Chavan cautioned that any counter-allegations from the BJP could pose challenges for Pawar, alluding to previous investigations into his conduct. Additionally, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule supported Chavan’s stance and emphasized the importance of maintaining alliance unity and refraining from personal attacks.
Bawankule reiterated the alliance’s agreement to avoid criticizing each other during the elections, emphasizing that Ajit Pawar had breached this understanding by targeting the BJP’s track record in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. He refuted Pawar’s claims of corruption in BJP-led municipal corporations, attributing the cities’ development setbacks to historical mismanagement by the NCP. Bawankule suggested that if Pawar has genuine concerns about corruption, he should approach investigative agencies rather than using the media for political statements.
