Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik sparked a political discussion by asserting that the NCP is set to secure the Mayor’s post in Mumbai. Drawing a comparison to national politics, Malik highlighted the potential of the NCP, stating that with 30 seats, the party could clinch the Mayor’s position in Mumbai, similar to a single-seat government in Jharkhand.
Malik mentioned that the true strength and impact of the NCP in Mumbai will be evident on January 16. The NCP has nominated 94 candidates in Mumbai, focusing on social diversity, including professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers, as well as individuals from various backgrounds such as vegetable vendors and sanitation workers.
Emphasizing inclusivity, Malik noted that the NCP has ensured fair representation for women, Marathi speakers, North and South Indians, especially Telugu speakers, and minority groups like Muslims and Christians. He expressed gratitude to NCP National President Ajit Pawar for his support and independence in the face of opposition to Malik’s involvement.
Malik raised concerns about the conduct of Returning Officers, alleging procedural violations favoring specific candidates. He vowed to lodge a formal complaint with the State Election Commission regarding these issues. Malik also highlighted instances of irregularities in candidate qualifications in various wards, promising legal action against those responsible.
Revealing the party’s electoral approach, Malik stated that the NCP is contesting independently and adapting strategies based on the rival parties in each constituency. Confident in their prospects, he mentioned targeting seats from the BJP and other opponents in different areas of Mumbai.
