NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar criticized the attack on doctors at a municipal hospital in Thane by Shiv Sena leader Ramesh Mhatre, calling it ‘completely wrong.’ Pawar raised concerns about why a person with a criminal record was given police protection despite the incident. He highlighted the contradictory situation of providing protection to someone with such a background.
Pawar mentioned that influential individuals in power were backing those accused of such actions. Following their complaint, Mhatre was arrested but later hospitalized for treatment. Pawar alleged that powerful people were supporting such behavior, indicating a concerning trend.
The altercation occurred on July 6 at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli, where a dispute arose after doctors advised transferring a newborn to another hospital due to the full Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre and his associates got involved after being contacted by the family. A video of the incident captured Mhatre and his supporters arguing with hospital staff, with allegations of assault on doctors and staff members.
Mhatre denied the assault, stating that he only pushed away a doctor’s mobile phone. He claimed his actions helped save lives and expressed no remorse for the incident. Despite the denial, one doctor sustained injuries during the altercation.
