NCP-SP leader Fahad Ahmad criticized Tamil Nadu’s Leader of Opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin, for his anti-Sanatan comment, calling it “childish and inappropriate.” Stalin stirred controversy by advocating the eradication of Sanatan in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Ahmad expressed disapproval, labeling the statement as “shameful” and emphasized the need for respectful discourse on religious matters.
Ahmad commended the Congress for parting ways with the DMK and supporting Vijay-led TVK to secure a majority in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He highlighted the discomfort caused to the Congress due to the DMK’s statements and reaffirmed the importance of upholding religious tolerance and respecting diverse beliefs in the country.
Stressing the significance of social reforms in addressing perceived issues within religions, Ahmad urged against criticizing any faith recklessly. He underscored the need for responsible dialogue and refraining from derogatory remarks, particularly from public figures like Udhayanidhi Stalin. Ahmad emphasized the educated nature of the people of Tamil Nadu and their expectation of dignified conduct from their leaders.
Reacting to the controversy, BJP leader Nazia Elahi Khan remarked on the mandate given to Vijay by the people of Tamil Nadu as a response to the DMK. Khan cautioned against disrespecting religious sentiments, stating that while political disagreements are acceptable, targeting religious beliefs like Sanatan or Lord Ram is not. She emphasized the need for political discourse to remain respectful and focused on policy differences rather than religious provocations.
